Voting Question: Does the court or city benefit from giving me points on my driving record?

I ran a red light and it's 2 points from what the citation shows. I can pay the fine without any issue, but I want a clean record. Does the court benefit from giving me points on my record? I just don't want my insurance going up. The court is in the city of Troy, Michigan. I have a perfect record and with the recent weather and snow, driving home one night, my brakes failed on a deserted street (explains all the ice on the road) and I slipped past the red light.
